How to Celebrate Your Sober-versary

Dealing with life on a regular day is tough stuff. Now add being sober from your favorite destructive coping mechanism and add two years of a global pandemic. That being said, it is always a good time to celebrate. Whether it's a day, a week, a month, a year or an hour sober, we have to acknowledge ourselves and our achievements!

Celebrating sobriety milestones is a reminder of the positive effect that your decision to change your relationship with alcohol has made on your life. Let’s be real, there are major struggles that you have overcome. From cravings, being triggered to emotional, physical, or mental challenges, it’s important to take time to recognize that during those hard moments, you were able to continue on your booze free journey.

Here are some ways you can celebrate your sober-versary:

1. Invite Others to Share in Your Success

Loved ones and friends who have been by your side throughout your sober journey would love share in your success. It’s a nice way to recognize others while celebrating this personal milestone with you. This can be done by sharing a cake, trying out some new non alcoholic alternatives and why not add in a dance party!

2. Prepare or Go Out for a Nice Meal

Celebrate your milestone by going out to dinner at a restaurant you have always wanted to try. Invite others for a dinner out or stay in if you prefer something more low-key. Food is definitely our love language.

3. Invest in Your Future

Think of the dreams and aspirations you had before booze took over. What has always fascinated you? For this sobriety milestone, invest in your future and in your dreams. Sign up for a course or program to learn about your passion.

Learning happens at every stage of life. In this stage, you can give something back to yourself that you lost. Your interests can include other things and go farther than staying sober.

4. Spike Your Adrenaline

It's time to let loose with something to get your adrenaline flowing. Why not mark this important day with a terrifyingly thrilling activity! Jump out of a plane, go bungee jumping, or, book a day at an outdoor paintball arena. This is your chance to live on the edge, responsibly.

5. Get a Tattoo

Mark this momentous day by getting inked. Your sobriety is a huge accomplishment, get your date or a symbol of something that represents your strength, power and commitment to yourself.

6. Have a "Me" Day

Staying sober can be hard work, so celebrate your sobriety birthday by rewarding yourself for all your hard work. Pamper yourself with a spa day, do your nails or a sheet mask. This is the time to treat yourself in ways that you enjoy and benefit from. It’s all about you baby!
